On 23–24 September 2026, the 2nd annual threat assessment seminar of the Baltic Sea Region Border Control Cooperation Network (BSRBCC), organised by the Latvian State Border Guard, is taking place in Riga.
Representatives from Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland and Sweden are participating in the seminar, along with representatives of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and the Customs Board of the Latvian State Revenue Service.
During the event, participants are discussing the current situation and the main threats in the Baltic Sea region, as well as presenting their national threat assessments. Particular attention is also being paid to potential threats such as the use of illegally constructed tunnels to facilitate illegal migration, as well as cross-border security risks posed by unmanned aerial vehicles.
Frontex is providing an overview of the situation, while representatives of the participating countries are sharing up-to-date information on the security situation in their respective countries. A representative of the Latvian Customs Board is providing information on the situation regarding the circulation of smuggled goods in Latvia.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants are discussing the findings and opportunities for further cooperation in order to strengthen information exchange and a shared understanding of threats in the Baltic Sea region.
