On Saturday, September 27, State Border Guard officers prevented 18 people from illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian state border. A total of 10,240 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border this year.

Three people were not denied border crossing due to humanitarian reasons, therefore for humanitarian reasons 25 people have been admitted this year.

In total, 53 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country out of  whom 23 were detected at the external borders.

• One foreigner with forged documents was detected

During immigration control, one Somali citizen traveling to Denmark was detected at the border control point of Riga Airport, who presented a forged Belgian passport to the border guards. Criminal proceedings have been initiated for the use of forged documents.

• Entry into Latvia denied to eight foreigners

At the Grebņeva and Pāternieki border checkpoints, entry into Latvia was denied to five Belarusian, two Ukrainian and one Russian citizens due to security reasons. The persons have been returned to their countries of departure.

• Violations of residence conditions were found for two foreigners

At the Terekhova and Riga Airport border checkpoints, one Russian and one Moldovan citizen were found to have violated the residence conditions (no valid travel document, exceeding the visa-free period of residence) in the Schengen area countries. No administrative proceedings were initiated against the Moldovan citizen, and the Russian citizen was held administratively liable.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were found for seven persons – one Latvian, one Armenian, one Eritrean, one Ethiopian, one Yemeni, one Somali and one Sudanese citizen.

For violations in the field of operation of vehicles and vessels, State Border Guard officials have held 23 persons administratively liable or officials for crossing the border – eight Belarusian, four Russian, two French, two Moldovan, two Romanian, two Uzbek, one Latvian, one Estonian and one Austrian citizens.
