On Wednesday, May 27, the State Border Guard officers prevented 90 people from illegally crossing the Latvia-Belarus state border, in total this year 4222 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border.

Due to humanitarian reasons, three people were not prevented from crossing the state border in the past 24 hours. In total, 12 people were not prevented from crossing the state border due to humanitarian reasons this year.

In total, 35 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country out of  whom 21 were detected at the external borders.

• Two wanted persons detained

During the passenger list check, a Latvian non-citizen and a Latvian citizen arriving from Sweden were detected at the Ventspils port, who are wanted by the police. The persons were detained and handed over to State Police officers.

• Entry into Latvia denied to eight foreigners

At the border control points of Grebņeva, Pāternieki and Riga Airport, entry into Latvia was denied to two citizens of Uzbekistan because the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of entry and stay, to one citizen of Azerbaijan, one citizen of Kazakhstan and one citizen of Tajikistan because the foreigners did not have a valid visa or residence permit, as well as to three citizens of Belarus for security reasons. The persons have been returned to their countries of departure.

• Violations of residence conditions were found for three foreigners

At the border control points of Pāternieki and Riga Airport, two Georgian and one Moldovan citizens were found to have violated the residence conditions (no valid visa or residence permit, exceeding the visa-free period of residence) in the Schengen area countries. The administrative proceedings in the case of one Georgian citizen were not initiated, the other persons were held administratively liable.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected for four persons – three Georgians and one Moldovan citizen.

State Border Guard officials have held 10 persons – three Belarusians, one Azerbaijani, one Iranian, one Mongolian, one Portuguese, one Romanian, one Serbian and one Uzbek citizens – administratively liable or denied them permission to cross the border for violations in the field of operation of vehicles and vessels.
