On Sunday, September 21, State Border Guard officers prevented 49 people from illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian state border. A total of 10,130 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border this year.

For humanitarian reasons 22 people have been admitted this year.

In total, 67 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country out of whom 26 were detected at the external borders.

• One Latvian citizen with forged documents was detected

One Latvian citizen entering from Edinburgh was detected at the border control point of the Riga Airport, who presented a forged Latvian citizen's passport to the border guards. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the Latvian citizen for using forged documents. The forged document has been seized.

• Entry into Latvia denied to 11 foreigners

At the border control points of Terehova, Grebņeva, Pāternieki and Riga Airport, entry into Latvia was denied to two Russian citizens because the foreigners did not have valid travel documents, one British citizen who had already resided in the territory of the European Union member states for 90 days in the previous 180 days, thus exceeding the permitted period of residence, as well as four Belarusian, two Ukrainian, one Russian and one Moldovan citizens due to security reasons. The persons have been returned to their countries of departure.

• Violations of residence conditions were found for 10 foreigners

At the border control points of Pāternieki and Riga Airport, eight Belarusian citizens and one Myanmar citizen were found who did not have a valid visa or residence permit for the territory of the Schengen countries, as well as one Russian citizen without a valid travel document. The administrative violation case of two minor citizens of Belarus and one citizen of Myanmar was not initiated, while the other persons were held administratively liable.

• One person was denied exit from the country

A Latvian citizen traveling to Tivat was detected at the border control point of Riga Airport, who did not have a valid travel document (surname changed). The person was denied exit from Latvia.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected for six persons – three Lithuanian, one Latvian, one Belarusian and one Tajik citizens.

For violations in the field of operation of vehicles and vessels, State Border Guard officials have held 35 persons administratively liable or prevented them from crossing the border – 16 Belarusians, five Moldovans, three Lithuanians, two Latvians, two Estonians, two Azerbaijanis, as well as one citizen each of Russia, Serbia, Finland, Ukraine and China.
