On Sunday, September 20, the State Border Guard officers prevented 34 people from illegally crossing the Latvia-Belarus state border, in total this year 11212 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border.
25 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country, and 12 border violators were detected at the external borders.
• Wanted Latvian citizen detained
During passenger profiling at the Riga Airport border control point, a Latvian citizen arriving from Denmark was identified as being wanted by the police. The individual was detained and handed over to State Police officers.
• Entry into Latvia denied to four foreign nationals
Entry into Latvia was denied to one Tajik national at the Riga Airport, Terehova, and Grebņeva border control points because the individual lacked a valid visa or residence permit; entry was also denied to one Russian national, one Estonian national, and one Greek national for security reasons. The individuals were returned to their countries of departure.
• Violations of stay conditions identified for two foreign nationals
At the Grebņeva and Pāternieki border control points, one Kazakh national and one Russian national were found to have violated the conditions of stay (lacking a valid visa or residence permit, or exceeding the permitted duration of stay) within the Schengen Area. The individuals were held administratively liable.
• One Latvian citizen denied exit from the country
At the Riga Airport border control point, a Latvian citizen departing for Albania was identified as being subject to a travel ban. The individual was denied exit from the country.
During internal immigration control operations, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected involving five individuals — two citizens of Lithuania, and one citizen each of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Moldova.
The State Border Guard officials have held 8 individuals administratively liable or prevented them from crossing the border for violations in the field of vehicle and vessel operation – three citizens of Belarus, two of Kazakhstan, and one each of Russia, Romania, and Tajikistan.
