On Saturday, September 20, State Border Guard officers prevented 63 people from illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian state border. A total of 10,081 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border this year.

For humanitarian reasons 22 people have been admitted this year.

In total, 71 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country out of whom 14 were detected at the external borders.

• Five foreigners denied entry into Latvia

At the Terehova, Grebņeva and Pāternieki border checkpoints, two Belarusian and one Russian citizens were denied entry into Latvia because the foreigner did not have a valid travel document, while two Russian citizens were denied entry due to security reasons. The persons have been returned to their countries of origin.

• Five foreigners found to have violated the conditions of residence

At the border control point in Pāternieki and at the Riga airport, two Belarusian citizens were found to have no valid visa or residence permit, one Russian citizen without a valid travel document, as well as two Moldovan citizens who had exceeded the visa-free period of residence in the territory of the Schengen countries. No administrative proceedings were initiated in the case of the Russian citizen’s administrative violation, while the other persons were held administratively liable.

• One person was denied exit from the country

At the border control point in the Riga airport, it was found that one Latvian citizen traveling to London did not have a valid travel document (surname changed). The person was denied exit from Latvia.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected for 24 persons – 14 Latvian, five Uzbek, three Lithuanian, one Estonian and one Ukrainian citizens.

For violations in the field of operation of vehicles and vessels, State Border Guard officials have held 33 persons administratively liable or prevented them from crossing the border – nine Belarusians, three Kazakhs, three Moldovans, three Ukrainians, three Uzbeks, two Romanians, two Germans, as well as one citizen each of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, Macedonia, Poland, Serbia and Tajikistan.
