On Thursday, 19 June, State Border Guard officials prevented 47 people from illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian state border. A total of 5,371 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border this year.

This year, 12 people have not been prevented from crossing the border on humanitarian grounds.

A total of 48 offenders were detected at the external borders and within the country. Fourteen border violators were detected at the external borders.

•    Five foreigners denied entry to Latvia

At the Grebņeva, Pāternieki and Riga Airport border control points, one Russian and one Kazakh citizen were denied entry to Latvia because they did not have valid visas or residence permits. One Sri Lankan citizen was denied entry because he could not justify the purpose and circumstances of his entry and stay, and two Moldovan citizens were denied entry to Latvia for security reasons. The individuals were returned to their countries of departure.

•    Violations of residence conditions were detected in two foreigners

At the Terehova and Pāternieki border checkpoints, one Russian and one Tajik citizen were found to have violated the conditions of stay (they did not have valid visas or residence permits) in the Schengen area countries. The persons were held administratively liable.

During immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected in 10 persons – four Senegalese, three Lithuanian, one Russian, one Estonian and one Tajik citizen.

For violations in the field of vehicle and vessel operation, State Border Guard officials brought administrative charges or refused to allow 24 persons to cross the border – three Latvian, three Belarusian, three Moldovan, three Romanian, three Uzbek, two Lithuanian, one Russian, one Estonian, one Georgian, one British, one Polish, one Serbian and one Ukrainian citizen.
