On Friday, September 18, the State Border Guard officers prevented 31 people from illegally crossing the Latvia-Belarus state border, in total this year 11152 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border.
33 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country, and 21 border violators were detected at the external borders.
• Foreign national found with forged documents
During immigration checks at the Riga Airport border control point, an Egyptian national departing for Denmark was identified after presenting a forged Spanish ID card belonging to another person to border guards. Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the use of forged documents and the concealment of identity.
• Entry into Latvia denied to 12 foreign nationals
Entry into Latvia was denied to two Ukrainian nationals at the Riga Airport border control point because they could not justify the purpose and circumstances of their entry and stay, as well as to one Kyrgyz and one Belarusian national who lacked valid visas or residence permits; meanwhile, entry was denied to three German, two Belarusian, two Russian, and one Finnish national at the Terehova, Grebņeva, and Pāternieki border control points due to security concerns. The individuals were returned to their countries of departure.
• Violations of stay conditions detected for three foreign nationals
At the Grebņeva and Riga Airport border control points, a citizen of Russia, a citizen of the United Kingdom, and a citizen of Turkey were found to have violated the conditions for staying in Schengen Area countries (lacking a valid visa or residence permit, or exceeding the permitted duration of stay). The individuals were held administratively liable.
• Departure from the country denied to one Latvian citizen
At the Riga Airport border control point, a minor Latvian citizen departing for Turkey was found to lack the notarized consent of at least one parent for the child's departure from the country. The individual was denied departure from the country.
During internal immigration control operations, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected involving six individuals — three citizens of Russia, two of Vietnam, and one of Latvia.
The State Border Guard officials have held 6 individuals administratively liable or prevented them from crossing the border for violations in the field of vehicle and vessel operation – four citizens of Belarus, one of Ukraine, and one of Uzbekistan.
