On Wednesday, September 17, State Border Guard officers prevented 15 people from illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian state border. A total of 9,970 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border this year.

For humanitarian reasons 22 people have been admitted this year.

In total, 58 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country out of whom 28 were detected at the external borders.

• Entry into Latvia denied to 18 foreigners

At the border control points of Terekhova, Grebņeva, Pāternieki and Riga Airport, entry into Latvia was denied to three Ukrainian and one Russian citizens because the foreigners did not have valid travel documents, one Uzbek citizen because the foreigners did not have a valid visa or residence permit, one Uzbek citizen because the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of entry and residence, as well as seven Ukrainian, three Moldovan and two German citizens for security reasons. The persons were returned to their countries of departure.

• Violations of residence conditions were found for five foreigners

At the border control points of Terekhova, Pāternieki and Riga Airport, three Russian and two Uzbek citizens were found to have violated the residence conditions (no valid visa or residence permit, no valid travel document) in the Schengen area countries. The administrative violation case of one Russian citizen was not initiated, the remaining persons were held administratively liable.

When carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected for eight persons – three Egyptians, one Lithuanian, one Filipino, one Indian, one Polish and one Uzbek citizens.

For violations in the field of operation of vehicles and vessels, the State Border Guard officials have held 22 persons administratively liable or prevented them from crossing the border – seven Belarusian, three Moldovan, two Russian, two Serbian, one Latvian, one Kyrgyz, one British, one Norwegian, one Romanian, one Tajik, one Ukrainian and one German citizens.
